hi
.
i have 2 old ST-225 hard drives that came out of a late 1980s PC AT - the connectors are not pins but contact stripes on the edge of the circuit board
.
what would be the most economical way to get the data off these? i don't have time to go looking for old computers at thrift stores - could i find a vintage computer hobbyist willing to do it for the challenge/fun of it?
.
many thanks

I have a number of those drives myself.  The "card edge" interface on the drives is called "MFM."  I've got some MFM controller cards and was recently (earlier this year) trying to set up an old PC to read them.  I found my trusty old MFM controller card, but unfortunately, I lost one of my MFM cables (you need two different cables for it to work).  Since then, however, I've set up another PC that has an MFM hard drive in it.  Setting up the drives can be tricky, because on the older MFM controller cards you have to set up all sorts of jumpers on the card to get it working properly.  But I have all the cables to make it work now.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I suppose I could give it a shot for you if you mailed them to me.  I'll send you an email and we can talk about it more.  Welcome to the forum, by the way.
