I've got a guy religiously playing TradeWars 2002 on my currently-running BBS, but the problem is that no one else is playing at the moment.  Would someone (or ideally, multiple someones) please get on and challenge his universal domination?

Here's how you do it:

1.  Get a telnet client that shows ANSI color, use the windows Terminal font because I think it shows those wonderful ANSI rectangle blocks that are so instrumental in vintage ANSI art.

2. Telnet to cavebbs.homeip.net (port 23, the standard telnet port), create a user.

3. Once logged in, hit "." then "2" for the online games menu.  Hit "7" for TW2002 Game 1 and play.

Give it a shot -- it's loads of fun.  Global War is fun too.  Thanks!

Well, you should try it out.  It's really fun and addictive if you get into it.

Now the name thing?  TradeWars 2002 and M.U.L.E.?  I fail to see the similarity.

All you have to to do in windows XP is click Start > Run, type Telnet and hit enter.

Then just type "open cavebbs.homeip.net 23" and you'll get connected.

It has the right font and everything!

And I can't explain why the name reminds me of M.U.L.E. but it does, LOL!

I used to love playing Tradewars back in the early 90's.

Excellent!  Now if I could only get the 10 people who have played TW by themselves and waited for other people to play -- over the last few years -- to all play at the same time. Smiley

I'm pretty rusty.  It'll take awhile until I'm in the groove.  I'll check to see if any of my friends are interested in doing some old-school bbs gaming.

That would be excellent.  Please invite them over.

Hi Red Wolf, I know this thread is a bit old but I started playing Trade Wars 2002 Game 2 simply because Game 1 had so many turns. 10,000 turns a day is a bit steep. Game 2 has been a blast, and my friends and I have had a great time digging up the history of the 22+ year universe. 5,000 turns still seems a bit hefty though. We literally use up all of our time on the BBS but never get close to using up even the 5,000 turns. Is there a possibility that you'd consider starting a 3rd Trade Wars game with 2,500 turns and maybe faster port regeneration? It seems like the port regeneration on Game 2 takes about 2 weeks to get back up to 100%. 5000 sectors seems about spot on, but a little higher port density would be awesome. I was also curious if you'd consider adding some of the Trade Wars 2002 add-ons to Game 3 if you did end up deciding to create one. I remember The Borg, and The Crystalline Entity add-ons being a lot of fun.

At any rate, thanks for keeping the game going, it's been a blast.

Thanks for playing!  I can understand how 10K turns is way too much.  I will probably set up a Game 3 soon with properties similar to those you requested.  I sent you an email on the BBS as well.

Thanks again for playing.
