Hi, I'm new here and I guess since I havn't a whole lot to say of myself, why not just say something about my favorite computer instead. So here it is... I own an approx. $700 Apple IIgs. It started as "Free For pick up or shipping." The Details: Apple IIgs ROM 01 Buggie Power Supply..... (a 150 Watt IBM power supply that has been altered for use as an External on an Apple //e or IIgs, a must for any loaded system... the stock 63Watt supply just doesn't cut it.) 2x Apple 5.25 drives 2x Apple 3.5 drives(800k) AEHD+ floppy drive(1.44MB) SuperSonic Stereo Card SuperDrive Card(for AEHD+, in control panel when slot is set to "Smartport" I can use the apple 3.5 drives, when slot is set to "your card" I can use this card with the AEHD+ for working with 1.44MB floppies) Apple High Speed SCSI Card AE Transwarp GS card at 8Mhz with 32k cashe Sirius 8MB RAM card External 350MB SCSI Hard Drive Apple CD-150 SCSI CD-ROM drive System Saver GS Lance GS Ethernet Card (yes, it's on the network and has access to the internet.... I sometimes use it to go on IRC... or download disk images... makes the computer 100% self sufficient..)

Indeed, welcome to the forum, RockinKat. That's a heck of a good way to make an introduction here too. I love your system.
My best GS is a ROM 03 with a few megs of RAM (forgot how many offhand), RGB monitor, an internal 2.5" IDE HD board, and some sort of sound card (an Echo II?). I've also got an R&D Automations Apple II Flash Card interface that I could use with it, but I mostly use that for my favorite Apple IIe.
Either way, it could never top your awesome setup. I've always wanted an accelerator board and more RAM, but as you know, they can be incredibly expensive. The Ethernet card is quite a find as well.
Anyway, welcome again, and thanks for posting your setup!

That's not a bad setup you have either...
Though the ROM 03 may have made some improvement on noise issues on the sound track(but really they were minor)... and it did have a bigger ROM with more GS OS tool files built in... which made GS OS boot faster... but otherwise, the extra 1MB of RAM on board made it have problems with some 8MB RAM cards, and the boot ROM's changes broke some games(not to mention that some countries outside of North America didn't get the ROM 03, so programers their didn't have a real good way to make sure their software ran on them either)
I'd never run an 03 as long as I have an 01 available... I have a few 01's... never find 03's in the "wild"
The ethernet card was bought new... it was only made in the last decade... you could buy a new uthernet brand ethernet card for it, which is only about $60 or so....
The Accelerators are really hard to get without spending some moola, but they are so worth it in my opinion... I spent $250 on the first one I got and another $40 or so to buy a brand new 32K cashe upgrade card for it... The second accelerator card I got was similar though it only had an 8k cashe on it... I got it for $50 when someone posted it on usenet.. flipped it a couple months later for a good bit under normal value (I only charged about $150 if I remember right) to someone I was helping get their system up and running.

I believe I have a copy of that book. Doesn't it have a green cover? And regarding the IIe, I still think Kat's setup is great. What are your favorite Apple IIgs games -- or games you'd recommend, RockinKat? (P.S. You should do a post about your Sonic collection too). Benj

Well lets see here... Favorite Apple IIgs games: AirballArkanoid IICrystal Quest(I esspecially like using my ADB trackball with this one.) Marble MadnessSilpheedPipe DreamShanghaiZany GolfThose are a few that really stand out. I downloaded all the games off the fairway and burned them to a CD ROM I can read on my IIgs in GS OS.. and wrote all the images to floppies... so I can pretty much play whatever I want.

Wow. That does look like a honkin' big IBM PC power supply! How did you connect it to the Apple IIgs motherboard? Did you use the connector off a IIgs power supply? By the way, I looked through the other pictures on your site and it looks like you've got a great collection. Maybe you should do some posts about your other systems / consoles.

It uses the plug off a IIgs power supply, but not the cable. A 6 foot cable using higher-gauge(less resistance less noise) wire which is in a clear plastic tube goes between the the connector and the PS. Here's the docs on this power supply as written by the person who did the work on this power supply. http://www.apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Docs/Buggie_PS_docs.txtBy the way, I looked through the other pictures on your site and it looks like you've got a great collection. As time permits... I'll probably use it as an excuse to take a break from cataloging my collection... I started early this month and I'm still three drawers of NES games away from getting all my NES games entered.

That's cool. What software are you using to catalog it? Are you putting it all in a spreadsheet? I've been thinking about doing something like that for quite some time, but it's a daunting prospect.

I'm using a program called Gamepedia. It's a Mac OS X application. I really like it.
