I've made some changes to the server that Cottonwood BBS runs on.  This is also the server that the Cottonwood website, the Anything Commodore User Group website, and my personal website run on.  Anyone who's downloaded anything from any of these websites before will now notice a 10x increase in speed thanks to some "tweaking" of my setup.  Enjoy...  Smiley

Great news.  But you seem to have a problem on your Cottonwood website: really huge text.  See the attached picture for some info (I'm using Firefox, by the way).

Well, I checked it out using Firefox, and I see what you mean...  It looked just fine in Internet Explorer, but obviously not in Firefox.  So, I changed the font size tags in the HTML file, and now it looks good in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.  Smiley

Thanks for pointing that out!  Smiley

You can now get to the Cottonwood & Borderline BBS website at http://cottonwoodbbs.tk and my personal website at http://wiskow.tk

These are forwarding addresses, so the old addresses will continue to work, too.

Those addresses don't seem to be working for me.  Are you sure they're up and running?

Yes.  I just checked again, to be sure.  Smiley

But... If they don't work for you, just use the old addresses.  Smiley

Road Runner or anyone on the Time Warner network, like me, can not access .tk domains. .tk addies are blocked by many ISP's including Time Warner.

Instead of using this service to redirect, spend the money on your own domain and then use dynip nameservers and services to redirect. dot.tk has a really bad rap and could limit your user hits.

Interesting... I had no idea.  I bet the citizens of the tiny country of Tokelau (the country that .tk is for) would not be happy to know that.  BTW, my ISP is Time Warner, and I have no problem with the .tk addresses.  Also, I'm in the military, and my web access at work is highly restricted, and .tk sites work fine there, too.  So, to me, it sounds like if your ISP is blocking access to a certain country's extension, then it's time to look for a new ISP.

Instead of using this service to redirect, spend the money on your own domain and then use dynip nameservers and services to redirect. dot.tk has a really bad rap and could limit your user hits.

I just set it up so that people wouldn't have to type as much.  But, as I've already said, the old addresses still work.

http://cottonwoodbbs.tk is also http://cottonwood.servebbs.com

http://wiskow.tk is also http://cottonwood.servebbs.com/wiskow

http://cbm-bbs-list.tk is also http://cottonwood.servebbs.com/cbm-bbs-list.txt

Can you give me examples of this "bad rap" that you speak of?

Apparently that's my problem.  I'm using RoadRunner too and can't access those domains.

Thanks for sharing that... I still don't get how they can block the domain of a whole country...  But I do know that I, too, have Time Warner Roadrunner, and I can access the sites just fine.  So it must be a regional thing...

I can goto www.dot.tk , Roadrunner seems to block the re-direction.

Quote from: Wikipedia
There are reports that .tk domains have been used for phishing scams and spam.

Unfortunately, the Dot.tk 'free forwarding service' is also widely used by spammers and scammers on free advertising services such as Gumtree. Despite numerous attempts to contact the 'dot.tk' abuse team, the service is still permitting unscrupulous users to set up forwarding addresses which enable them to mask their real domain name / url and redirect innocent victims to sometimes illegal / fraudulent web sites

Something I find interesting, because you use the servebbs nameservice perhaps that is a way to circumvent roadrunners filters. If we all use roadrunner but RW and I can't go to your site then it must have something to do with your Dynamic Name Service. Huh?

I kind of doubt that...  The servebbs nameservice from dyndns.com is only for incoming traffic and has nothing to do with where I surf on the Internet from my house.  A more likely reason for why I can access the .tk sites and you can't is because the Time Warner Roadrunner ISP in Southern California is a seperate entity from the rest of the country, having recently formed due to a merger between Adelphia and Comcast cable services in this region.

Quite possible.  I'm in NC, and that's 2000 miles away from you. Smiley

I read somewhere that if you use a different DNS server other than RoadRunner's that you can view the .tk domains.  That means, theoretically, if you put the TK domains' IP addresses in your browser they will work (if they're only blocking names and not IP blocks too).  But since they're redirects, that makes it more tricky.
