Greetings.  I was wondering if anyone out there knows where I can get a Sharp X68000, one of the nicest 16-bit computers out there, in my humble opinion, without paying too much.  I've been studying these sexy, black beasts for a while, and I really want one of these computers.  Thanks in advance for the help.

These are rare and expensive because everybody loves them, even me. Good luck!  ^_^

Thanks.  I'm just getting tired of the emulation scene due to the lack of accuracy, plus the fact that it isn't very legal.. Plus, my MSX (Sony Hit-bit 201) is getting kind of ornery, and I want to give it a companion.  Tongue

Hey, sirpaul484, glad you could join us.  Are you a Paul McCartney fan?  I am.

Anyway, I'd love a Sharp X68000 too, but never bothered to try to get one, as the cost of importing obscure Japanese stuff (obscure to us, anyway) is pretty expensive.  Unless you have a "man on the inside" that lives in Japan and can ship you cheap used hardware and games, then you're stuck with places like eBay, where sellers throw one unit to the dogs and let American and European collectors fight over them until the price is sky-high.  Perhaps I'll make a Japan pilgrimage someday and ship myself a bunch of stuff back to the US.

Other than eBay, you could look for Japanese used game sites online that might ship things overseas for you.  In that case, it helps to read Japanese, which I don't.

Edit:
Here's some eBay links for you:

And here's an X68000 right now:

The only thing separating you and an X68000 is money.

Thanks for the links.  I've actually been looking at that system for the last day or 2, but I don't know if I want to go deeper in debt for it.  I mean, it is one of the nicer models (according to old-computers.com), and I have seen lesser models going for more, even ones that were supposedly busted and in need of repair.  One of the things which I was thinking of was, since my girlfriend currently resides in the Philippines, and I know most flights have layovers in Japan, to go and visit her, and "accidentally" miss my connecting flight there, quickly go to an electronics shop and pick one up.  Then again, that may cause more problems, and be far more expensive than just getting this system..

And to answer your question, I am a bit of a fan of Mr. McCartney, but that's not the reason I chose this nickname.  I just got tired of people on IRC asking my age, gender, and name online that I decided to put it all in my username, and it just stuck.  It didn't help any, though..
