I recently found a stack of 20 TI 99 games at a local thrift store.  They are $0.98 each.  I am new to vintage computing.  I bought an Atari 400 a couple of months ago.

So are the games worth getting?  How about a system? Are they affordable? Is there anything I should know before buying one?

Dude, I'd get ANYTHING for $0.98. Unless it was like cat poop, or herpes.

Buy all of the cartridges.  They're probably worth it.  TI-99's are cool, and the system's games have a unique feel.

TI-99/4A's are very cheap and easy to find.  Don't pay more than $10 for one, or $20 for one complete in the box.

Good luck.  Let us know which cartridges you buy.

I'm not so sure about that. Smiley  Even though the TI-82 is possibly more powerful (6 MHz Zilog Z80, 28K of RAM) and more useful, I think the TI-99/4A is way cooler.

those types of things are always up for debate though. How can one determine the coolness of an object without spending quality time with it? correct?

I take it back, it is not cool because there is no % button. Even a cheap dollar store calculator has a % button. WTF.
