Hi, VC&G users,

Just wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming Vintage Computer Festival East.  It's September 12-13 at the InfoAge Science Center located in Wall, New Jersey.

VCF is a public event celebrating the history of computers from the 1940s - 1980s.  The morning schedule is for lectures and workshops; the afternoons are an open exhibit hall where everything is turned on and working.

Among this year's highlights are the keynote address about RCA computers in the 1950s, an 8-bit musical concert, BASIC programming challenge, and the build-your-own terminal workshop.

Details are posted athttp://www.vintage.org/2009/east/  where you'll also find the latest VCF news.  A 2-minute video montage of last year's show is on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mNXrKjiD78.  Or refer to the simple event brochure athttp://www.vintage.org/2009/east/vcfe6.pdf  .... tickets are $10 for one day or $15 for both days; 17 and younger get in free.

The event benefits the InfoAge Science Center, which is a 501c3 non-profit.

Thank you,
- Evan Koblentz

Welcome to the forum, Evan.  It's about time we saw you around here. Smiley

I wish I could attend VCF East this year, but it looks like I won't have the chance.

In the future, you should probably announce it around here at least a month ahead so people have time to make plans to attend.  Hopefully someone around here can go and tell us all about it.

I would love to go, but I really do not think I can make the nearly 8 hour drive just for the weekend

I've from people who are coming from California, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, Ohio, Illinois, and even Italy!  So an 8-hour ride is not an acceptable excuse.  Smiley

But: where are you located?  Perhaps you could share a ride with someone.  We have a lot of people driving from Pittsburgh, D.C., upstate NY, etc.

Also, if you need a reason to stay for more than a weekend, here are some other things to do nearby (scroll to bottom of page): http://www.vintage.org/2009/east/tours.php .... also Manhattan and Philly are each 90 minutes away, Atlantic City is only 60 minutes away, there's the Thomas Edison site an hour away, and much much more!

I'd love to come but I'm on house arrest.

Is that a good enough excuse?

I just got my job back so I am unable to take the vacation, although I do have the weekends off. I will be coming from Canada... crossing the border and such, I would have to leave as SOON as I got off work on Friday and be able to leave sunday night, and then I would be exhausted monday morning.

Did I mention I work at a call center for Cox Communications? Yea, not a good job to exhausted at lol

Got home very late, and now very tired!!!

VCF East 6.0 this weekend was, by far, the largest and most successful of all the east-coast editions.  We out-did ourselves for the number of exhibitors (23), number of attendees, amount of income for our club and museum, all sorts of good press attention (ars technica, AOL, etc.), very busy computer consignment and book sale, and special events (8-bit concert, guided museum tours, etc.)

We also took lots of video and photos, hopefully to be posted soon.

Best-of-show winner: Mike Lee (Chicago); exhibit: "Fail" (computers that were duds)
Best rookie VCF East exhibitor: Robert Bernardo (Visalia, Calif.); exhibit: Guitar Hero on a C-64

I'm off to hibernate for a while.   Smiley

Thanks for the report, Evan.  Wish I could have been there.  As they say: I guess there's always next year.
