Firstly, I apologise that my very first post is about selling! I hope to post on other topics later but right now I need to sell.

I own what may well be the only Altair 8800 in the UK (even the London Science Museum doesn't have one). I bought it some years ago from its original kit-builder in North America and had it shipped over here. A bit more interesting than our usual boring run of Sinclair Spectrums and Amstrads!

It was rather nice to have a unique piece of the American dream right here in blighty. It has caused many comments and I am very fond of it. But sadly, the dream has ended for me. I have been caught by the recession and the threat of likely repossession of my house - and everything must be sold - even the Altair.

It is now on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170467616416) at a bargain starting price. The first and only bid is from an American - and it does look as if the "only Altair 8800 in the UK" will be returning to its own continent. A pity - it would be nice to keep at least one Altair in Britain.

Man, that is quite a specimen!  You're right that it would be a shame if it left the UK.  If there are any UK-based retro computing groups, perhaps you should tell them about your auction.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thanks for the welcome, RedWolf! Sadly, it sold to someone in the USA - but at least it fetched a decent amount.
