Firstly, I apologise that my very first post is about selling! I hope to post on other topics later but right now I need to sell.
I own what may well be the only Altair 8800 in the UK (even the London Science Museum doesn't have one). I bought it some years ago from its original kit-builder in North America and had it shipped over here. A bit more interesting than our usual boring run of Sinclair Spectrums and Amstrads!
It was rather nice to have a unique piece of the American dream right here in blighty. It has caused many comments and I am very fond of it. But sadly, the dream has ended for me. I have been caught by the recession and the threat of likely repossession of my house - and everything must be sold - even the Altair.
It is now on eBay (
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170467616416) at a bargain starting price. The first and only bid is from an American - and it does look as if the "only Altair 8800 in the UK" will be returning to its own continent. A pity - it would be nice to keep at least one Altair in Britain.
