Well, let's see... We have what looks like a fan grill (with fan), as well as what appears to be a viewing window (and/or a square block)...

I still say either MAME cab, OR.... a wooden PC case!

Awesome.  Yay for me!

What kind of finish are you going to be using on it? Or are you going to leave it au natural?

I'm disappointed.  I really wanted to see a vintage treehouse.  Please build one after you finish your case, ok?

I have been thinking a dark red stain would look great (as the primary lighting colour is red). But then I think maybe a brown stain. Or attempt to get a Black Glossy finish.

Err.... Actually you gave me a great Idea. That shall be a mystery until I make up my mind about it.

Regarding this project, I actually hope to use this experience and putting it towards a grander project. In the end, I hope to build a desk with a 'slide out' motherboard tray. Technically you will be taking the back/motherboard side of the case. The front and Side will still be attached to the desk. You know, just a hobby lol.

My vote is for the brown.  Gives it a more nostalgic feel for me, especially since the first residence I grew up in had wood paneling.  But, seeing as it's your project, do what you feel's right.

Also, I have a hard time telling from your pics.  Are you using solid wood, plywood, or some other variety of "engineered" wood?  I'm leaning towards plywood looking at it, but it's hard to tell.

By the window-like piece and the big cooling fan, I'll stick with my first guess and say it's an industrial strength Easy Bake oven.

I've thought about building a cabinet out of this or something like it.

Then I found this.

The price of some of the cheap cabs are cheaper than what you can build them for. Every now and again one pops up for $50 that isn't that far away. Just get one of those I-PAC or whatever they are called.  Add any buttons you need with a hole saw and add a regular computer to run Mame and BAM! Cheap ass arcade machine in your bedroom that will scare the shit out of you when some demo is playing and says "CRAZY TAXY!" randomly at inappropriate times.

But if I was going to build something from scratch I'd get some laminate instead of painting it. Get some of that rubber trim where you cut a dado into the edge of the plywood and it's got those little fins that grab the edge of the dado you've cut.
