Mario Jump Blue XBOX SOFTMODDING! Tutorial! Mario Jump Blue
Difficulty Rating: Starman Starman

Part 1: Tools Needed

Part 2: Using AR

Part 3: Applying the Patch

Part 4: Enjoying your New Modded System

Part 5: Extra things to do!

PART 1: TOOLS NEEDED

Hardware:
for the software clickhttp://uk.codejunkies.com/downloads/XBOXAT_EUsetup1_31.zip
  • ONE of the following Games
    • MechAssualt
    • 007 - Agent Under Fire
    • Splinter Cell 1
Please keep in mind these must be ORIGINAL GAMES... NOT Platinum!
  • A modified Game save
    • MechAssualt - Krayzie_MA_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8.rar
    • 007 Agent Under Fire - Krayzie_007_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8.rar
    • Splinter Cell NTSC - Krayzie_SC-NTSC_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8.rar
    • Splinter Cell PAL - Krayzie_SC-PAL_UXE_Installer_Dutch-English_v2.8.rar
  • Original XBox WITH XBOX LIVE ON DASHBOARD
  • A computer
  • A router

PART 2: USING AR

This program is REALLY EASY to use. Connect your AR to your USB (obviously with your Memory card attached). Drag and drop your modified save file (no need to unrar as AR will do it for you!) into the coloumn that says 'Memory Card' Now once your modified saved file is on the memory card, put the memory card back in your xbox controller, turn on your xbox and check to see if it was transfered properly. If so copy the game save to your xbox.

PART 3: APPLYING THE PATCH

This is where it gets fun Smiley

007 Agent Under Fire

Put the game disc into your xbox and start a new game (THIS IS A MUST FOR 007!) One you are able to move around, leave the game and then load your modified save file, once done proceed to PART 3.5.

Splinter Cell

This one is a bit different... There are TWO SAVES. you must transfer save 1 to the memory then to the xbox and then repeat the process with save 2. With that done, you then insert the game into your xbox and load Save 1. With that done proceed to PART 3.5

MechAssault

Probably the easiet. Transfer the game save to the xbox and just run the game save. With that done Proceed to PART 3.5

PART 3.5 APPLYING THE PATCH AFTER THE GAME

Ok you will now be at a familiar, but unfamiliar screen. The Xbox dashboard... but different, right? Of course select English first of all. Then the ABSOLUTE first thing you MUST click on is BACKUP eeprom (the eeprom is the file used to identify your xbox and makes your Hard drive ONLY ABLE TO BE USED on your xbox {which of course can be fixed aswell Cheesy}). Follow the onscreen prompts to back up the eeprom and the click on back up on the next menu and then once that is complete click on return to main menu. Next step you MUST have your xbox connected to the router aswell as the computer in order to back up what is needed. So goto settings, Network, and change the IP TYPE to DHCP (for automatically recieve the IP Address from the router) Scroll down, click on save, then click on Exit. Now once you are back at the main menu (The Dashboard) at the bottom right you should see an IP address (If not do a softboot L+R+Back+Start). At this time, your IP should show up at the bottom right side of your screen. At this time I ADVISE YOU to BACK UP the C, E and Eeprom to your computer just in case something goes wrong! Your EEPROM is in E\Dashboard\Backup\ BACK UP EACH OF THOSE TO YOUR PC HARD DRIVE!!!

When you are done backing up, click on install softmod and just following the on screen instructions. Step 1: Virtual EEPROM which should only take a few seconds. STEP 2: Virtual C. This part will take quite a while so go enjoy your coffee or cigarette (I enjoyed both).

When that is complete you will be prompted with a screen asking which patch you would like to use, Honestly, just click nkpatcher .67 as you will most likely want to add a bigger HD to your xbox once you realize how much potential the XBox has. After choosing the 'patcher' you will be asked which dash you would like to use. EvoX(EvolutionX) or UnX(UnleashX) I personally use Unleash X because it looks better but if you want Evolution X go ahead and choose that one (from what I know UnX has more options)
An Example of UnX: http://www.tdubel.com/artikkelit/kuvat/uxalust/unleashx2.jpg
An Example of EvoX http://callusnext.com/xb_evox.jpg

Once you choose your dash just keep clicking 'A' to go through the prompts, if you recieve an error reply to this board and let me know!

Now this part is going to take a long time. Have another coffee (you'll need it with all the fun your going to have) or a cigarette, or both!

Push A to turn off your Xbox, And then turn the xbox back on by pressing EJECT! and take the game out of the tray.

Congratulations! you now have a softmodded XBox with all the capabilities of a Hard modded one!(mod-chip)

PART 4: Enjoying your New Modded System

Here's where you can get creative, go into settings and play around with the LED colours, screen saver, skins, etc! Its wicked fun!!
Also you can open and close the DVD tray remotely... its quite fun with cats around... first it scares them then they wanna play with it!

PART 5: Extra Things To Do

I will just list what else you can do now
  • Add a Bigger Hard Drive
  • Add Games to your hard drive
  • Play DVD's WITHOUT the DVD remote
  • Install XBox Media Center (Very powerful now with XBOXMC360 Live store!)
  • Play C64-N64 games on your system (no pun intended with the 64's LOL)
  • Browse Youtube(XBMC Required)
  • Have TWO hard drives WITHOUT the DVD-tray
  • Make the Jewel clear WITH LED lights(I'm doing so now)
The possibilites are just endless... ENJOY!

PLEASE POST ANY QUESTIONS HERE! or you can contact me VIA mIRC (irc.efnet.net #xboxmc)

THIS TUTORIAL WAS MADE FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY! I DO NOT CONDONE THE USE OF THIS TO MODIFY THE X-BOX CONSOLE, CONTROLLER, MEMORY CARD, OR ANY OTHER COMPONENT IN ANYWAY POSSIBLE. I ALSO DO NOT CONDONE THE USE OF CHEAT CODES, SAVES OR ANY OTHER MODIFIED PROGRAMS FOR THE X-BOX. It is also cheap to beat a game with cheats

Excellent tutorial.  I've always wanted to do that, but I just didn't have the parts (like the Action Replay, original version of MechAssault).

Keep in mind you don't need action replay! You can make your own (As I did) It's actually quite cheap! All you need is a spare USB cord! If you want me to post a tut of that I can!

For the games, you can find 007, SC, and MA all at your local video game reseller for about 2-5 bucks Cheesy

Ah yes.  I could check my local GameStop for those games.

And by all means, please post a tutorial on making your own Action Replay.

Is there any way to do a soft mod without needing one of those games.  Say, with only just the AR adapter?

no you need to games to run so that the xbox HD will unlock and then the program runs through the save game... its alot safer then the audio exploits. The AR adpater is just used to transfer the saves to the xbox... if you have a friend with the save already on the memory card then you dont need to do the AR adapter... but its always good to have on of your own.

Darn -- thought so.  So, does anybody want to get me a copy of one of those Xbox games for Christmas? Smiley

By the way: what are these "audio exploits" you speak of?

there was an exploit found the audio of a game (I know... a weird exploit to find) but the problem was that it wasnt stable at all... there are other methods of softmodding (hotswap) but its quite dangerous as you can guess... and it involves opening the game system

Well, I actually installed a mod chip in my Xbox earlier this year, but it was faulty and didn't work.  So I ultimately had to unplug it and now I'm ready to try the softmod (well, "ready" as in "someday") instead of spending more cash on another hardware mod.  Besides, it was a royal pain in the  Mario Jump Blue to solder those tiny points. Go for it.  The more tutorials, the better.  As long as it saves me $5. Smiley

Actually, I'm just too lazy to go pick them up.  Maybe I should to to GameStop some time and try to find a copy of one of those.

Either way, a hot-swapping tutorial would be cool.
