Now it can be much easier than before! you have 2 options

Option 1: Send it to me and i will do it, for a fee of course

Option 2: EVEN BETTER buy the modchip and the compatible Wii-Clip, solder the Chip to Wii-Clip and then just pop it on! google it! IT STAYS ON!

WARNING: Newer model of Wii (Released as of March '08 I believe) have a new type of D2C chip (same chip, different setup) If you have this, your Wii is currently unmoddable! There is a way to tell though. If you open your Wii and see a line UNDER the characters D2C then you are SAFE! Mod away!

DISCLAIMER: For educational purposes only, I am in no way responsible for your actions, Mod-Chips are made with the purpose of backing up your legally purchased game so that the original disc does not get damaged. If your Wii no longer works after installing the mod-chip or after opening, I am in no way responsible for the damages YOU did to the unit while opening/installing the mod.

Does Nintendo have any kind of online authentication system, like Sony's DNAS? Are you still able to play online if your Wii is modded?

I currently have no desire whatsoever to mod my Wii.  Maybe some day down the road... in ten years?  But for now, I'm happy with Nintendo's games and services as they are.

The Xbox was so much more exciting to mod because it was essentially an x86 PC in a game console with a hard drive and USB-compatible controller ports.  The Wii -- 512mb of internal flash memory?  Not so much.

I don't believe they have an online hardware authentication system in place, but they have stated that some of the system updates check for known mods and will brick your system if the mod is present.

From the info i gathered from other people... no one has had thier Wii bricked either from an update or playing online.. the only way you may brick your Wii with a mod is if you install illegal VC games downloaded from the net. I honestly don't think Nintendo will go as far as Microsoft did with the banning sprees from XBL

So tell me, other than Wii disc game piracy (which I'm not interested in), what are the benefits of modding your Wii?

Can you run any ROM you want on the virtual console?  That might be worth it.

Well not technically ANY rom... but you can download pirated VC games as well as custom VC games (with roms injected). You can also install homebrew software (EMULATORS!!!). IMHO I say the games alone are worth the mod as they got for about $60 in store and some people just can't afford that. *cough*

You could always, you know, rent the games from the video store. Wink

But what happens when you rent them, can't beat them the first time and continue renting them? you just spent more than what you originally would have paid to buy the game and you had to bring it back with no refund!! OHNOES!

I'd say that you'd deserve it for either a) renting a single game 12 times, or b) being a sucker for renting from a store that is apparently charging $20/rental. Grin

I know that there are subscription services like Netflix, but for video games, where you can keep one game as long as you'd like. I've never used any of them, though.

honestly i think those types of sites are scams...for $10 a month you can rent a game as long as you want or something but the thing is... if you keep a game too long or don't want any games that month, you are still sharged per month, no matter if you get something or not... i dont trust em to be honest..

I tried to mod the Wii by adding an anti-suckiness coprocessor, but it didn't work. Tongue

You should make a thread with a list of the three things in the world that don't suck to you.  angel

Oh come on, just buy the games.  Rent them first if you're worried about whether they suck or not.  If you get into the rental, buy the game and you'll have it.  If they're too expensive, then tough luck -- wait until they go on clearance.

I've only purchased two games at there release day price; one was Oblivion and the other was EQ2:Desert of Flame (because of a raid and we wanted to be the first). Around here the trick is the Goodwill Computer Store. Found a sealed copy of Oblivion just 3 months later ($4.99).

Sorry off topic..
