I was thinking about what I could do to increase the activity in the forum (that is, NOT from spam bots), and whilst reading the retro scans of the week, I came up with an interesting concept: The retro game of the week.  Each week, I will take a random game (pre-1996, I consider games made in 1995 and earlier to be considered retro) from a random system, attempt to play it for several hours, and write an article about it.  Most of the time, I will pick games which people (or, at least Americans) have not played before, but sometimes, I will pick a more common game, and try to play and review it from a viewpoint of a person who has never played it before.

Opinions?

I think it sounds like a great idea! Hell, I'd be interested in writing a few of the entries myself. Always looking for new old games to play with the buds!

I'm also going to try to branch out between different genres.. If I don't, the list of games would probably be Puzzle, Puzzle, Puzzle, Puzzle, and Shmup with puzzle elements.

ahaha.

I tend to stick to Side Scrolling Arcade games (think TMNT in Space and Sunset Riders, also Metal Slug Tongue) but me and the guys from work just try and find something that is multiplayer then we power through it.

The one day, me and my buddy Adam powered through Bubble Bobble... not just once, but twice to get the "Happy Good Ending" or whatever it was called... that was a fun night.

I wish I could do that one of these days.  The farthest I've gone through that game was level 30-something.

I just started on an article.  Hopefully it will be decent enough.  I'm going to wait for Benj to give me the thumbs-up to post it before I do so.  I don't want to do something that he doesn't approve.  If not, then I'll post it on my blog or something.

Sounds great to me, sirpaul.  You don't need my permission to post messages on the forum (unless it's SPAM). Smiley
