I'm just curious as to what other people's favorite console is.  I would have to say for nostalgic reasons the 2600 is my favorite.  The graphics are not all that great but it was the most popular system for many years.  I was also my very first system.

After that I would say it would be the NES.  Mario made me a loyal Nintendo fan.  The games were fun and addicting.  The NES also had a large and fun library of games.

The PS2 is also one of my favorites.  There are many great games for the system and I still spend a lot of time playing it.

Right now though I am currently a fan of the Jaguar.  My wife got me one this last christmas and I have wanted one for a long time.  I am working on getting the complete library boxed (or close to it).  I think the reason for my current fascination with the system is that it is the last Atari system and some games have good graphics and fun game play.

So what are some of your favorite consoles of all time?

The SNES. Great games, great memories. The PS2 is second, it has all the 2D games that I could ever want!

I... I... I have to decide?!  Are you trying to break my mind or something?

I don't know.  I don't think I really have a favorite console, I have too many to pick from... only a favorite computer, IIgs... but that's not what you asked...

Amiga > IIgs in general. Tongue But I love the IIgs sound chip. Exact same thing as the Ensoniq MIRAGE. I wish somebody WOULD make IIgs software that emulates a Mirage, because $50 on ebay for a IIgs is a lot better than $500+ on ebay for a MIRAGE. It could be argued that the DOC is more powerful than Paula, but we won't get into that here.

EDIT: Here's some Mirage demos:

Another interesting IIgs fact: it was one of the main development computers for the SNES.

Good question, Fred.

For my favorite gaming machine, it's a close tie between the Atari 800 and the NES.  But the Atari 800 is technically a computer (although not a very useful one compared to its gaming qualities), so I guess the NES wins.  Both choices are based on nostalgia, since I grew up playing Atari 800 then NES games.  I actually grew up playing an Atari 2600 too, and I enjoyed many of those games, but they never "stuck" as well as the games for the other systems did.

Strictly speaking of consoles, I'd have to say the NES. Nintendo's extremely restrictive and monopolistic 3rd party policy, while horribly unfair to competitors, brought many, many quality titles to that grey box.

It's not an old console but it's my fav, the X-box 360. But my fav old console would have to be the N 64.
