I am curious if anyone here has written any games for computer or console or whatever. Tell us about it!

There seems to be so much art and creative problem solving involved in the whole process. it seems like it would be fun/rewarding. The music, the graphics, creating a storyline and characters, etc. I have always wanted to write a game but have not really gotten even to the point of brainstorming what it would be about. It would be cool to write one for my cell phone or mp3 player, or at least port a game.

i pass by this book on the way to my office (the office is in a library) almost every day: http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Video-Games-Evil-Genius/dp/0071497528
looks like its all in java, which i'm not really interested in.... also looks to be written for teens, not that that would stop me from renting it lol

I wrote a very basic, text-only dungeon maze game (think Zork) in C for my high school senior project many moons ago. I did have one trick though - in one room I had a sound play upon entering - that was a pain to implement.

I made the greatest game ever. "YOU WIN!"

10 PRINT "YOU WIN!"
GOTO 10
END

We are in talks with Microsoft about a Xbox Live Arcade version.

AWESOME! LOL

I should do that one time on one of my friends, make a basic program that does that, and throw in about 4gigs of dummy files so the install takes longer, then he runs the exe and all it says is "YOU WIN!"

I made a couple small shoot 'em up games with Torque Game Builder a few years ago.  It was fun, but the builder's limitations became frustrating.

Alot of those "Make your own Video Game" Programs do not have much capabilities. Your best bet would be to learn Java, C++, hell even VB Tongue

yea i saw one make your own game programs and it definately only let you make different variations of the same game. it was more just a level editor. But that was fun to fool with, but it never really made "games".

i've thought about learning assembly just for fun for whatever. i really like breaking things down to the basics, also i like to make things way harder than they need to be... lol

I've done mods but not (to my fault) any fully programmed games yet. I'll see if I can do something over summer.

I just want a free engine that is comparable to the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 engine. Then I would be happy.
