Well, there is a LAN party coming up, so i thought i would clean out my pc a bit. So I did the usual routine of deleting torrents and downloads, tons of pics and other random files. after performing all of this, i decided to run a disk defrag. the first program i was using (Tune-Up Utilities) wouldn't defrag alot of the drive. I was getting confused! so I ran WDT (Windows Defragment Tool, the one Windows ships with). after performing a defrag with that, the report poped up (because i clicked view report). and it showed me all the clusters and such, then it said "Files not defragmented: **USER**/Local Settings/Temp/{$543765-54376-6787876-%$^Y&}/mp_carentan.ff 78.9GB"

WTF! I said to myself and after some research, I have learned, it is a map file from CoD4. taking up 1/3rd of my hard drive. CoD4 is made by activision isn't it? FUCK THEY ARE PISSING ME OFF LATELY!

Hmm... Seeing as it is in a temporary directory, I'd think it would be safe to delete.  Then again, it might be an important map that was misplaced.  I'd say chances are it's from an online match, though, and it should be fine.

Well, I don't think any map file should be 78.9 GB in size, unless COD4 stores all its maps (including those you download, if that's possible) in one monolithic file.  If it's in a temp directory, I second sirpaul: delete it.  Keep an eye on the directory though and see if it pops up again and under what circumstances.

It's definitely a fanmade map, odd thing is though, it's only 39MB, not 79GB so WTF!? You think it might be a worm or something? 0_o

It likely was from some installer leaving it there, since that's what the masses of NNNN-NNNN thing is usually (InstallShield or similar).

Activision didn't make Call of Duty 4, Infinity Ward did.

Yup! I just bought the game for my friend's 360 today, and I have never played it. I also suck at most FPS, and he's rather good in Halo. But from bootup to the final poweroff of the system, I have RAPED HIS ASS at COD4! It's AWESOME! I need a 360!

They published it. I'd rather not get into a discussion about it, but basically Activision paid Infinity Ward to make the game, and then put it on store shelves for the majority of the profits. They didn't, in fact, have any hand at coding or doing artwork or producing the game except maybe QA Wink

This. I thought this much was obvious, doesn't everyone know the drama on forums involving IW/Treyarch?  I think fr3ak is just messing with us. :3

Pentaro... im not a HUGE gamer, i dont sit back and wait for games to be released. im a casual gamer and when i see a companies logo on the game start, i automatically assume they had some part in it Tongue

either way. Activision still f*cked me over. my gf bought me GH:WT. the strum bar broke, so i went to walmart and replaced it, strum bar broke once again. f*cking activision.

Now, that might be more their problem, but at least you can get replacements I guess!

(I only have GH3, on my Wii, and haven't played enough to break anything).

That's usually what publishers do.

You're wrong. Your gf was the one who f*cked you over, if she really loved you she would have gotten you Rock Band 2. Tongue
