After seeing this ad, am I the only one who has the urge to play Lucasfilm’s Koronis Rift on the Oculus Rift? Retro stereo 3D action!

Discussion Topic of the Week: Can you think of any vintage games that would translate well to the Oculus Rift?

    Atari Battlezone.

Midwinter comes to mind immediately. As it happens a remake was planned to be launched through Kickstarter but I’m not sure if it failed or if the campaign hasn’t begun yet. Anyway, support for Oculus Rift wouldn’t be far fetched…

  3. Alexander Says:

Star Raiders for Atari 2600 might work alright… maybe.

Silent Service for the NES too!

  4. Jistuce Says:

Oh, hey, a Rescue on Fractalus descendant!

I’d love to see a lot of those early 3D games in a VR rig.
Certainly Koronis Rift begs for it more than the rest, of course.

  5. Space Harrier Says:

I would love to see Space Harrier, also a remake of the ZX Spectrum game 3D Deathchase.

I sometimes hypothesize about porting an emulator for a system that supports parallax scrolling over to a stereoscopic 3D system. E.g., an SNES emulator -> something like the Rift or current techs like NVIDIA’s 3D Vision. The idea would be to automatically separate out of the different background layers and give them a better depth effect using the 3D hardware.

I’m not sure if the idea holds water, but I like to think about it. And it might have the effect of appearing as a bunch of cardboard cutouts sliding around and varying distances.

i agree with Multimedia Mike. also a Nintendo Virtua Boy emulator could be great to port to any new VR device.

there is something interesting coming from google. a VR gadget made from cardboard and smartphone.

Does anyone know who did the artwork? I really like it but googling for Koronis Rift stuff didn’t turn up anything. I can’t decipher the signature either.

As for the topic, System Shock. Maybe it’s vintage by now. That game really put me on edge. I remember being legitimately scared hiding behind a door listening to the beeping and clanking of robots out to kill me patrolling by. It’d be fun to revisit in VR.
