Retro Scan of the Week: “When to Use Low Speed Modems”

January 30th, 2006 by Benj Edwards
When to use low speed modems.

From a 1986 Inmac catalog. It really makes the decision a simple, clear-cut one — and it doubles as a really boring board game! I found this amusing, so I thought I’d share it. More to come.

Haha very nice! I love how the flowchart is supposed to make it easy for new customers to decide between products, but the first step requires information that usually only techno-savvy users would know (1200bps? That’s EXACTLY what I need!). Ah, maybe it’s just back in the day far enough that there *were* no computer-illiterate modem customers.

Yeah, if somebody was shopping for a modem in that catalog then they probably knew at least a little bit about modems. Pretty funny, though.
